Burning Residential Yard Waste Not an Option for Most Residents

To reduce the harmful effects from breathing smoky air, state lawmakers called for the phase-out of residential yard and garden debris burning, beginning in 1991. Since then, this type of burning has been reduced or eliminated across our state. Only areas that are less populated and have fewer commercially available alternatives may burn under specific rules. Burning is not an option in Spokane County's 13 incorporated cities, towns and their Urban Growth Areas, nor is it allowed within the boundaries of the No Burn Area.
