EXCEPTION: Vermiculite attic insulation The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency published new information about vermiculite attic insulation in May 2003. Vermiculite attic insulation is a pebble-like, pour-in product. It is usually light-brown or gold in color, and it usually contains asbestos. - It should not be tested because the testing procedure is unreliable at this time.
- Homeowners who believe they have vermiculite attic insulation should limit trips to the attic and not allow children in the attic.
- Vermiculite attic insulation is not dangerous unless it is disturbed.
- You should not attempt any project that may disturb the vermiculite attic insulation.
- If it needs to be removed, we highly recommend you hire a certified asbestos contractor.
